By Ernio Hernandez
01 Jun 2006

"Law & Order" star Carey Lowell and Broadway's Proof star Johanna Day join Charles Grodin in a read of the actor-playwright's The Prosecution of Brandon Hein in New York City June 5.

Gordon Edelstein (artistic director of Long Wharf Theatre) stages the work to play at the Barrow Street Theatre for one performance only at 7:30 PM.

Based on a true story, The Prosecution of Brandon Hein is "about a young man who is currently serving life in prison, without the possibility of parole, for a crime he did not commit," as show materials explain.

Grodin will appear in his own work as the title character's father opposite Lowell (as the Defense Attorney), Day (as Hein's mother). James McMenamin (BFE) appears as Brandon Hein with Bruce Altman (Waverly Gallery) as Mr. Farris, Bruce McVittie (as Prosecutor), and Julia Gibson (Miss Julie as Mrs. Farris.

Grodin is known for his work as a film actor appearing in "Sex and the College Girl," "Rosemary's Baby," "Heaven Can Wait," "Midnight Run," "Taking Care of Business," "Beethoven" and "Dave" as well as host of his own talk show on CNBC. On Broadway, Grodin has appeared in Tchin-Tchin, Absence of a Cello and Same Time, Next Year and directed Unexpected Guests, Lovers and Other Strangers and Thieves. His work The Right Kind of People recently played Off-Broadway.

Tickets to The Prosecution of Brandon Hein at Barrow Street Theater, 27 Barrow St, are free and available by emailing the Culture Project at boxoffice@cultureproject.org. For more information, visit www.45bleecker.com.
