Grey Gardens' Ebersole Kicks Off Pride Week June 19

By Andrew Gans
19 Jun 2006

Christine Ebersole, who won Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for her performance in the Broadway-bound musical Grey Gardens, will help kick off Gay Pride Week June 19.

Ebersole will sing several songs — including tunes from Grey Gardens — at Garden Party 23. The kick-off for Pride Week 2006 will be held at Pier 54 at Hudson River Park, which is located along the West Side Highway at 13th Street. Ebersole will be accompanied by her former 42nd Street co-star Billy Stritch.

Ebersole will also take part in the annual Gay Pride Parade, which concludes Gay Pride Week on June 25. A Grey Gardens float — featuring the award-winning actress — will be part of the Pride March, which begins at noon at 52nd Street and Fifth Avenue.

Christine Ebersole received a 2003 Tony nomination for her performance in Lincoln Center’s production of Dinner at Eight. She also received a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her work as Dorothy Brock in the hit revival of 42nd Street. Ebersole’s other Broadway credits include The Best Man, Getting Away with Murder, Harrigan 'n Hart, Camelot, Oklahoma!, On the Twentieth Century, I Love My Wife, Angel Street and the City Center Encores! productions of A Connecticut Yankee, Ziegfeld Follies of 1936, Lady in the Dark and Allegro. She was also seen Off-Broadway in Talking Heads and was most recently seen in Grey Gardens, which she will bring to Broadway this fall.

Following a sold-out spring run at Playwrights Horizons, East of Doheny (Kelly Gonda, Founder and President; Beth Williams, Executive Producer), in association with Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director), will present Grey Gardens at the Walter Kerr Theatre. Previews will begin Oct. 3 with an official opening night Nov 2.
