I Do! I Do! and The Last Five Years Casts Ready for Pasadena Playhouse's Marriage Musicals

By Ernio Hernandez
23 Jun 2006

The brides and grooms for the upcoming Pasadena Playhouse's "The Marriage Musicals" presentation of I Do! I Do! and The Last Five Years have been cast by director Nick DeGruccio.

Both matrimony-based musicals will perform in repertory with two casts in California June 30-Aug. 6, with a July 8 opening night.

With music by Harvey Schmidt and book and lyrics by Tom Jones, I Do! I Do! will star Julie Dixon Jackson and Tom Schmid. Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years features Misty Cotton and Daniel Tatar.

Based on the Jan de Hartog play The Four-Poster, the Schmidt-Jones musical follows "Michael and Agnes on their wedding day and traces their life together over a period of 50 years, until the day they leave their house to the next pair of newlyweds." The creators of The Fantasticks offer their take on happily ever after.

Brown's musical-for-two follows the five-year relationship between writer Jamie and actress Cathy — one character goes forward while the other journeys backwards from their meeting to breakup and vice versa.

The design team for "The Marriage Musicals" features Tom Buderwitz (scenic), Steven Young (lighting), Jean-Pierre Dorleac (costume) and Rick Boot (sound). David Ossman is musical director and arranger. Production stage manager is Jill Gold and the assistant stage manager is Lea Chazin.

Tickets to "The Marriage Musicals" at the Pasadena Playhouse, 39 South El Molino Ave. In Pasadena, CA are available by calling (626) 356-PLAY. For more information, visit www.pasadenaplayhouse.org.
