American Pilot Will Fly Into MTC's 2006-07 Season

Manhattan Theatre Club announced June 30 that David Greig's The American Pilot will receive its American premiere this fall at its home at New York City Center.
Specific venue and additional details for The American Pilot will be named at a later date.
According to MTC, "In a rural village in a war-torn country, an American pilot crash-lands. Should the villagers in the region help him, murder him or use him as a pawn in a dangerous game with the enemy? This powerful, topical and very human new play earned raves last year when produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company."
Playwright David Greig was born in Edinburgh. His plays include Europe, The Architect, The Speculator, Victoria, Outlying Islands, San Diego, When the Bulbul Stopped Singing and most recently Pyrenees, The American Pilot and Tintin. His work with the theatre company Suspect Culture includes One Way Street, Airport, Timeless, Mainstream, Casanova, Lament and 8000 Miles. His translation of Caligula was presented at the Donmar Warehouse in an award winning production in 2003. In April 2005 the Donmar Warehouse also presented The Cosmonaut's Last Message to the Woman He Once Loved in The Former Soviet Union, originally produced by Paines Plough in 1999. Greig's work for children and young people includes Danny 306+Me Forever and Dr. Korczak's Example. He has also written extensively for radio. He is currently under commission to the Royal National Theatre, Out of Joint Theatre Company, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Young Vic.
