Butz and Pryce Leave Dirty Rotten Broadway Behind July 16

| photo by Carol Rosegg | It was a ball, it was a blast, it was a shame it couldn't last. So goes David Yazbek's lyric in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. The sentiment applies to July 16, when two of the musical's stars exit the Broadway production.
Jonathan Pryce and Norbert Leo Butz, one of the best reviewed couples currently in a Broadway musical, will exit Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Butz, who won the 2005 Best Actor (Musical) Tony Award for playing the more crass of the two titular con men, will help launch the national tour in Seattle in August (his partner in crime will be Tom Hewitt).
Stepping into Pryce and Butz's shoes on Broadway July 21 will be Keith Carradine (The Will Rogers Follies) as Lawrence Jameson and Brian d'Arcy James (Sweet Smell of Success) as Freddy. Pryce and Carradine competed for the Best Actor (Musical) Tony Award in 1991, when Miss Saigon and Will Rogers went head to head. Pryce won the award but Will Rogers was named Best Musical.
Understudies will play the title characters until July 21.

Pryce ("Brazil," "Carrington," London's Oliver! and My Fair Lady) stepped into the David Yazbek-Jeffrey Lane musical comedy at the Imperial Theatre in January, earning solid reviews for replacing John Lithgow as smooth Lawrence Jameson.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels also features Sherie Rene Scott, Sara Gettelfinger, Gregory Jbara and Lucie Arnaz. Jbara exits July 23, to be replaced by Richard Kind in early August.
Jack O'Brien directs, Jerry Mitchell choreographs.
