A Show Lane Bryant Would Love: Plus-Sized Actress Offers Confessions in D.C. Fringe July 21

| photo by Bob Morrison | The solo show Confessions of an Invisible Woman, a "plus-sized take on life, love and theatre," will be seen in the inaugural Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, D.C. July 21-24.
Virginia writer-actress Kristin Cantwell charts "an overweight woman's journey from imaginary friends to theatre auditions." She started the piece as her senior project in college three years ago.
"In an entertainment industry where ingénues are a size 2, I often wonder how I fit in," Cantwell says in production notes. "This show examines that question and gives me a platform to show my acting range. As an actor, I normally have 90 seconds for monologue Cattle Calls or a couple of minutes to read sides. Now I have 75 minutes to explore the highs and lows of life and love. It's my dream to become a working actor and use my Theatre Degree. Hopefully this show will take it in the right direction."
Cantwell graduated from Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA in 2003 with a degree in theatre. Confessions of an Invisible Woman seeks to
tackle the public's perceptions — as well as her own — of overweight women. The piece travels "from elementary school to college theatre auditions and beyond."
According to Cantwell, "Everyone has something they'd like to change about himself or herself. It's a journey trying to figure out 'How do I fit in?' and that journey often contains a lot of humor and missteps. Mine sure has."
Singer/Songwriter Nick Bognar, who also studied theater at Mary Washington College, is providing his original music for the show.
Wendy Flora directs Confessions, which will play at the National Building Museum Auditorium (401 F Street, NW) July 21 at 5 PM, July 22 at 8 PM, July 23 at 8 PM and July 24 at 5 PM. The running time is 75 minutes without an intermission.
