Butler, Hopkins, Burtka and More Set for Williamstown Cabaret Aug. 10-12

By Andrew Gans
and Robert Simonson
09 Aug 2006

David Burtka

The Williamstown Theatre Festival continues with a cherished local tradition Aug. 10-12 when it presents its latest set of Late-Night Cabaret performances.

For many years past, the acting ensemble at Williamstown was given a chance to stretch their artistic muscles at the Cabarets, which are typically held a few times a summer. Actors not known for singing would try their hand at a standard (Dylan Baker sings!), and singers would deliver numbers not usually found in their repertoire (Laura Benanti goes country western!)—sometimes songs they authored themselves. Interns and ensemble players were also given the chance to sing.

Sam Breslin Wright directs the cabaret performances and also emcees the evening as "Sammy Cabaret." Krik Kukul — aka "Fingers" — is musical director.

The following line-up is expected for the Aug. 10-12 performances on the Nikos Stage:

The Spring Street Boys: "Oh, What a Night"
Act One Company: "Incantation"
Sammy Cabaret, Fingers, Future Sammy, Future Fingers: "King of the Road"
The Apprentices: "Cigarettes & Chocolate Milk"
Kaitlin Hopkins: "Will the Sun Ever Shine Again"
Kaitlin Hopkins: "Baby I Love You"
Paul O'Brien & Joe Tippet: "Father and Son"
Kerry Butler & Kaitlin Hopkins: "Three Bedroom House"
Sarah Turner: "Wind Beneath My Wings"
Austin Lysy: "Second Avenue"
Act One Company: "Streets On Fire"
Doug Cohen: "Glimmerglass"
David Burtka: "Cold"
Benjamin Walker, Ian Scott McGregor, Danny Mefford, Lance Rubin, and Joe Tippet: "Brown Eyed Girl"
Ian Unterman, Ryan Karlels, Alex Timbers: "Hurt"
Sandra Shipley: "Suffragette Song"
Melissa Bartley: "I Don't Know How to Love Him"
Kerry Butler & Apprentices: "Let the River Run"

Show times are Aug. 10 and 11 at 11 PM and Aug. 12 at 11:30 PM. Tickets, priced at $25, are available by calling (413) 597-3400. Visit wtfestival.org for more information.
