Feelin' groovy is the goal of Goodspeed Musicals Aug. 10-Sept. 3 with the developmental premiere of The 60's Project, directed by Richard Maltby Jr.

The new show that borrows pop songs from the decade of social upheaval plays the Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, CT, where audiences will witness a fully-produced work in progress that is not open to critics.

Conceived by Janet Brenner, who produced Off-Broadway's Closer Than Ever, The 60's Project is also written by Brenner and Ken Levine and tells the story of a generation in an age of innocence and protest.

"The events of the '60s shaped the nation while the music defined it," according to Goodspeed. "Relive America's most dramatic decade with a group of young friends fighting to make a difference and find their place in an ever-changing world. The sights and sounds of a generation are brought to life in this powerful new musical you will never forget."

Tony Award winner Richard Maltby, Jr. staged Broadway's Ring of Fire, Fosse and Ain't Misbehavin'.

The varied songlist for the show includes "White Rabbit," "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?," "Chapel of Love," "Where the Boys Are," "I Think We're Alone Now," "Eve of Destruction," "I Only Want to Be With You," "Leaving on a Jet Plane," "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)," "The Shoop Shoop Song," and more.

Lisa Shriver (Ring of Fire and Goodspeed Musicals' Where's Charley?) choreographs.

The cast includes Rodrick Covington (The Lion King), Michael Gillis, Megan Lewis (Forbidden Broadway: SVU), Lois Robbins (the Maltby and Shire revue A Time for Love), Angela Williams, Maggie Benjamin (Rent), Andrew Rannells (Hairspray), Rodney Hicks (Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar), Cameron Adams (Hairspray), Mark Bush, Darryl E. Calmese, Jr., Michael Craig, Kevin Hale (Hairspray), Miles Johnson, Claire Karpen, Bobby List, Amy McAlexander (Little Women), Alexis Sims and Idara Victor.

This summer's Goodspeed production at Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT, is Pippin, which opened Aug. 9, and will tour after its Connecticut run.
