Richard Easton and Hal Linden Star in Darwin in Malibu at Bay Street, Aug. 15

By Robert Simonson
15 Aug 2006

Richard Easton

Tony-winners Richard Easton and Hal Linden star in the Bay Street Theatre's production of Darwin in Malibu, set to run Aug. 15-Sept. 3 at the Long Island theatre.

Easton, whose New York credits include The Invention of Love, Entertaining Mr. Sloane and Bach at Liepzig, will play Wilberforce in the play. Hal Linden will play the author of "The Origin of Species" in the Crispin Whittell comedy.

Hal Linden won a Tony Award for his work in The Rothschilds. Other Broadway credits for the "Barney Miller" star include Bells Are Ringing, The Sisters Rosensweig, The Gathering, Ilya Darling and Cabaret.

Also in the cast are Neal Huff as Huxley and Anna Chlumsky as Sarah.

The play finds Darwin, the founder of the theory of evolution, alive and lounging around in a deck chair in Malibu. Soon, two contemporaries arrive and the debate over the origins of man begins anew.

Daniel Gerroll, a Bay Street regular as both actor and director, will direct.
