Double Double, by Elice and Rees, Bows at Williamstown Aug. 16

By Robert Simonson
16 Aug 2006

Jennifer Van Dyck and Matt Letscher star in the premiere of Double Double at Williamstown.

Double Double, a new thriller by Rick Elice & Roger Rees, will have its debut at the Williamstown Theatre Festival's Main Stage Aug. 16 for a stay through Aug. 27.

Rees is the artistic director of the Festival. Elice, along with Marshall Brickman, wrote the book for the Broadway hit Jersey Boys. The piece is also directed by Rees, whose past credits have been primarily as an actor and director.

The show is about "Phillipa James [who] picks up a bum from London's Embankment and brings him to her late husband's luxury flat. A purely business arrangement, as she explains to the down-and-out Duncan McFee, who happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to her dearly departed mate. In exchange for just a tad of impersonation, and the signing of some legal papers, Phillipa offers Duncan money, food and shelter. That's the deal. But is it the whole truth? Can Duncan escape from this seductive trap with his bedraggled dignity intact?"

Phillipa James is played by Jennifer Van Dyck and Duncan McFee is portrayed by Matt Letscher.

The show concludes WTF's 2006 season, which has included revivals of Anything Goes, Sweet Bird of Youth, Romeo and Juliet and productions of the new works Lucy and the Conquest, A Nervous Smile and The Opposite of Sex.
