17 Oct 2006 -- Hugh Panaro Headlines Seattle Company of Company at The 5th Ave Theatre

Lestat Star To Play Bobby in Company at Seattle's 5th Avenue in October

Broadway's Hugh Panaro, late of Lestat and The Phantom of the Opera, will play Bobby in the new 5th Avenue Theatre staging of Company in Seattle this fall.

5th Avenue artistic director David Armstrong will stage the Stephen Sondheim-George Furth musical about marriage, friendship and the pitfalls and joys of committed relationships.

Performances will play Oct. 17-Nov. 5.

A Broadway revival of Company directed by John Doyle will play concurrent with the Seattle resident production. The New York production has the cast playing their own instruments, echoing Doyle's conceit for Broadway's current Sweeney Todd.

The landmark 1970 Company features such songs as "Side By Side By Side," "Ladies Who Lunch," "Being Alive" and "Another Hundred People." It won six 1971 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The show was last seen on Broadway for a limited Roundabout Theatre Company engagement in 1995. It is considered one of the American musical theatre's major concept show, expanding the musical theatre form with its fractured storytelling and nervous rhythms. Robert's view of love is refracted through his relationships with his married pals and the women he (unsuccessfully) dates.

The 5th Avenue production will also feature Anne Allgood (Broadway's Imaginary Friends, The Sound of Music) as Jenny, Laurence Ballard as Larry, Shelly Burch (Claudia of Broadway's Nine in 1982) as Joanne, David Drummond as David, Lisa Estridge as Marta, Kendra Kassebaum (Broadway's Rent) as Amy, Anna Lauris as Kathy, Bobbi Kotula as Sarah, Timothy Piggee as Peter, David Quicksall as David, Susannah Mars as Susan, Daniel C. Levine (Broadway's The Rocky Horror Show, Chicago, Jesus Christ Superstar) as Paul and Billie Wildrick as April.

Musical direction is by Ian Eisendrath. Designers include James Wolk (set) and Lynda Salsbury (costumes).
