Being Alive: Alive in the World Sells Out at NYMF, Adds Two Performances

By Matt Windman
14 Sep 2006

Alive in the World, a “New Musical in Progress” by Paul Scott Goodman at the New York Musical Theatre, has sold out its entire initial run.

Due to the demand, performances have been added for Sept. 15 at 11 PM and Sept. 18 at 11 PM. Performances begin Sept. 14 and will now play through Sept. 18 at the Sage Theatre (711 Seventh Avenue).

The cast includes Kelli O’Hara (The Pajama Game, The Light in the Piazza), Marcy Harriell (Lennon), Aaron Lohr (See What I Wanna See) and Greg Naughton. Kurt Deutsch, known to the theater community as the producer of Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records, will direct.

Kate, a political activist, is married to Sam, a prematurely retired Wall Streeter, but she falls for Michael, a painter. Sam meets Stella, a 9/11 widow. This evolving musical attempts to capture moments in our time, evoking place, memory, love, loss and hope in New York City, where the specter of terror hangs heavy. How do we reach for happiness? Who do we hurt by doing so? How do we feel "Alive in the World"?

Paul Scott Goodman (music/lyrics/book) also wrote the score and book of Bright Lights, Big City, which premiered at New York Theatre Workshop and was revived in June 2006 at the Prince Music Theater. His musical Tiny Dancer will run at the Prince in July 2007 and Rooms is planned for Off-Broadway in 2007, directed by Scott Schwartz.

Kelli O’Hara has received Tony nominations for her roles in The Pajama Game and The Light in the Piazza. Other Broadway credits include Dracula, Sweet Smell of Success, Follies and Jekyll and Hyde.
