Sutherland, Jackson and Pasquale Star in "Aurora Borealis" at NYC Movie Theatres Sept. 15

By Ernio Hernandez
15 Sep 2006

"Aurora Borealis" — starring stage folk Donald Sutherland, Joshua Jackson and Steven Pasquale — opens in limited release in New York City Sept. 15

James Burke directs the film featuring a screenplay by Brent Boyd. Produced by Scott Disharoon and Rick Bieber, the movie features original music by Mychael Danna. The film will roll out to more theatres in the coming weeks.

In the feature Jackson (who starred opposite Patrick Stewart in London's A Life in the Theatre) stars as a "25-year-old Minneapolis slacker" who decides to take a job as a handyman to be nearer to his gravely ill grandfather (Sutherland) and grandmother (played by "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" nurse Louise Fletcher). He soon finds himself falling for his grandfather's healthcare provider Kate ("Natural Born Killers" star Juliette Lewis) while dealing with his indifferent brother (Pasquale).

Jackson, who is better known to television fans as Pacey from "Dawson's Creek," made his West End debut in 2005 opposite Patrick Stewart in David Mamet's A Life in the Theatre at London's Apollo Theatre. Sutherland last trod the boards Off Broadway in Jon Robin Baitz's Ten Unknowns. Pasquale — seen regularly on TV's "Rescue Me" — has played Off-Broadway in A Soldier's Play, Fat Pig, A Man of No Importance among others.

The film, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival, runs 110 minutes. The official website can be found at auroraborealis-themovie.com.
