The Broadway Close Up series, which is presented at the Merkin Concert Hall, kicks off Sept. 25 with an evening devoted to Broadway lyricist David Zippel.

The 8 PM evening, which will feature the Tony-winning lyricist presenting and discussing his work, will be hosted by Sean Hartley. John Znidarsic directs the program, which features musical direction by Chris Marlowe.

Those scheduled to lend their talents to the evening include Debbie Gravitte, Judy Kaye, Andrew Halliday, Jenny Fellner, Lindsay Mendez, Anne Letscher, Becky Gulsvig, Anna Bergman, Lillias White, Steve Harner, Ruthie Renshall and Greg Edelman.

David Zippel penned the lyrics for the Broadway musicals The Woman in White, City of Angels (Tony Award) and The Goodbye Girl. He has also written for such films as "Hercules," "Mulan," "The Swan Princess," "Frankie and Johnny" and "The Wedding Planner." Zippel, who is also the lyricist and director of the Broadway-bound musical Princesses, has received two Academy Award, two Grammy and three Golden Globe nominations.

Merkin Concert Hall is located in Manhattan at 129 West 67th Street, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. Tickets are available by calling (212) 501-3330 or by visiting www.kaufman-center.org.

The Broadway Close Up series will also feature "Ambivalent Broadway: David Yazbek" which will be presented Oct. 30 at 8 PM. Tony Award winner Michael Cerveris, currently on Broadway in the acclaimed revival of Sweeney Todd, will host the evening, which will include performances by Sherie Rene Scott, Sean Altman and the GrooveBarbers. Marco Paguia will be the music director.

The fall series will conclude with "Bound for Broadway VII" on Nov. 27. The 8 PM concert will be hosted by Baby's Liz Callaway and will feature songs from new musicals.
