By Ernio Hernandez
22 Sep 2006

Two-time Tony Award winner James Naughton will appear in Looking for the Heart of Saturday Night as a "Monday Night Live" fundraising event at La Jolla Playhouse Oct. 23.

Hosted by the Center Stage Club on Oct. 23 at 8 PM, the Broadway and film star will perform in his show arranged by musical director John Oddo at the California company's Potiker Theatre.

Naughton will take on songs by such musical greats as Frank Sinatra, Tom Waits, Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer and Randy Newman in the evening. Looking for the Heart of Saturday Night "features a wide array of musical stylings ranging from pop standards to jazz numbers," according to an announcement.

Among the songs to be performed are "My Foolish Heart," "Come Rain Or Come Shine,” "I Ain't Got Nothing But The Blues" and the title hit "Looking For The Heart of Saturday Night."

Garnering his two Best Actor Tony Awards for his turns as Billy Flynn in Chicago and detective Stone in City of Angels, the actor has also trod the Broadway boards in Democracy, Whose Life is it Anyway? and I Love My Wife also directing Broadway revivals of Our Town and The Price. Seen in the recent film "The Devil Wears Prada," his other stage credits include Singular Sensations, Y2K, James Naughton: Street of Dreams, Golden Boy, Love Letters, Drinks Before Dinner, The Web and the Rock and Long Day's Journey Into Night.

Packages available for the event include a VIP pre-show martini party at 7 PM and an exclusive post-show dessert and cocktail reception with James Naughton. Proceeds from the event directly benefit the Playhouse’s new play development and education and outreach programs.

Tickets ($75-$350) are available for purchase by contacting Maseume Quartararo at (858) 550-1020 ext. 132. For more information, visit www.lajollaplayhouse.com.
