LaChiusa Work Hotel C'est L'Amour with Vicki Lewis Opens in L.A.

By Ernio Hernandez
30 Sep 2006

Vicki Lewis stars in world premiere of the musical Hotel C'est L'Amour, featuring songs by composer Michael John LaChiusa, opening Sept. 30 at Los Angeles' The Blank Theatre Company.

Blank artistic director Daniel Henning stages the work which began previews Sept. 26 for a run through Nov. 5 at the California company's 2nd Stage Theatre in Hollywood. Stacy Reed, Gwendolyn Bailey and Noah Wyle produce.

Conceived and directed by Blank's Henning, the new musical is "set in the honeymoon suite of a posh and ultra-modern hotel" where a newlywed couple spend their first night together as husband and wife. Woven from LaChiusa's produced and unproduced works, the production will feature more than 20 songs (including cut ones) from Hello Again, First Lady Suite, The Wild Party, The Girly Show, See What I Wanna See, The Petrified Prince and The Nutcracker.

Joining Lewis in the cast are Rick Cornette, Daren A. Herbert, Jennifer Malenke and America Olivo.

Christy Crowl is the musical director for Hotel C'est L'Amour. The design team features Kurtis Bedford (set), Ellen Monocroussos (lighting) and Sherry Linnell (costume). The production stage manager is Jennifer Klos.

Noted for her television turn on "NewsRadio," Lewis has previously appeared on Broadway in Damn Yankees and Chicago. Other stage credits include the short-lived Broadway musicals Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? and Wind in the Willows as well as Off-Broadway's I Can Get It For You Wholesale, The Crucible and the musical Snoopy (as Peppermint Patty). She can be seen the films "Mouse Hunt" and "Pushing Tin" and heard (providing her voice) in "Finding Nemo," "Hercules" and "Rugrats." Among her ample TV resume is a turn in the 1995 small screen take on "Bye Bye Birdie" as Gloria Rasputin.

The Blank Theatre Company comes off a prosperous 2005 season which featured the company's longest running production — Amy and David Sedaris' The Book of Liz (172 performances).

Tickets to Hotel C'est L'Amour, 6500 Santa Monica Blvd.(between Highland & Vine at Wilcox) in Hollywood, CA, are available by calling (323) 661-9827. For more information, visit www.TheBlank.com.
