Emily Skinner to Star in Actors' Fund Whorehouse Concert

Emily Skinner, best known for her Tony-nominated performance in Side Show, will star in the forthcoming Actors' Fund of America benefit concert of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
Skinner will play Mona Stangley — the role created on Broadway to Tony-winning effect by Carlin Glynn— in the Oct. 16 concert at the August Wilson Theatre.
The 7:30 PM concert will also feature the talents of Daniel Richard, Peter Gregus, Matt Scott and Tony Award winner Christian Hoff, who join the previously announced Harry Groener as the Governor, Andrea McArdle as Doatsy Mae, Felicia Finley as Angel, Mary Faber as Shy, Richard Kind as Senator Wingwoah, Jennifer Hudson as Jewel, "American Idol" finalist Constantine Maroulis as an Aggie soloist, Bob Martin as Melvin P. Thorpe, the cast of [title of show] as The Melvin P. Thorpe Singers.
The ensemble comprises Roxane Barlow, Michelle Kittrell, Amber Efe, J. Elaine Marcos, Rachelle Rak, Christina Norrup, Angie Schworer, Jen Cody, Dennis Stowe, Bret Shuford, Jeff Lewis, Jason Patrick Sands, Will Taylor, Matt Rossoff, Rick Faugno, Justin Greer, Phil Fabry, Nina Hennessey, MaryAnn Hu, Sue Goodman, Trent Armand Kendall, Naomi Naughton, Kate Pazakis and Charlie Schwartz.
Mark S. Hoebee will direct the one-night-only event, which will feature choreography by Denis Jones, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, set design by Paul Weimer and costume design by Michael Growler. Seth Rudetsky will once again be the musical director as well as the artistic producer for the annual semi-staged concert. Steven Yuhasz and Tim Pinckney are the producers.
Emily Skinner received a joint Tony Award nomination — with co-star Alice Ripley — for her performance in Side Show. Skinner's other Broadway credits include Jekyll & Hyde, James Joyce's The Dead, The Full Monty and Dinner at Eight. She was also part of the cast of the Disney musical On the Record, and she made her New York directorial with the Town Hall concert The Broadway Musicals of 1955. Skinner recently appeared Off-Broadway in Fanny Hill and in the Kennedy Center's production of Mame. She will soon be seen in Have a Nice Life, part of the New York Musical Theater Festival.
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas features a score by Carol Hall and a book by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson based on the infamous Texas brothel, the Chicken Ranch. The musical, co-directed by Peter Masterson and Tommy Tune, opened on Broadway in 1978, playing 1,584 performances. Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton starred in the film version.
The Actors' Fund of America, a nonprofit organization founded in 1882, provides for the social welfare of all entertainment professionals. Its headquarters and The Aurora Residence are located in New York City, and its nursing home and assisted living care facility are in Englewood, New Jersey.
