Track List Announced for Elaine Paige's "Essential Musicals" CD

By Andrew Gans
06 Oct 2006

Elaine Paige

When the musical Chess opened on Broadway, a new song was written for the character of Florence, the role created on the London stage by Elaine Paige. Paige has finally recorded the Tim Rice-ABBA ballad "Someone Else's Story" on her newest CD, due in stores this month.

Entitled "Essential Musicals," the 13-track recording is set to arrive in stores in the U.K. Oct. 23 on the Universal label. In addition to "Someone Else's Story," the recording also features songs from Les Misérables, Evita, The Phantom of the Opera, Hair and Follies. The complete track listing follows.

"Where Is Love" (from Oliver!)
"Edelweiss" (from The Sound of Music)
"Hopelessly Devoted to You" (from Grease)
"You Must Love Me" (from Evita)
"Bring Him Home" (from Les Misérables)
"Something's Coming" (from West Side Story)
"If I Loved You" (from Carousel)
"All I Ask of You" (from Phantom of the Opera)
"Someone Else's Story" (from Chess)
"I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair" (from South Pacific)
"Aquarius" (from Hair)
"Surrender" (from Sunset Boulevard)
"Broadway Baby" (from Follies)

Arguably Britain's most successful musical theatre actress, Elaine Paige has starred on the London stage in Evita, Cats, Chess, Anything Goes, Piaf, Sunset Boulevard and The King and I. She made her Broadway debut to much acclaim in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard, and her recordings are numerous. Paige also appeared in the New York City Opera's production of Sweeney Todd, earning a Drama Desk Award nomination for her performance as Mrs. Lovett.

Paige currently hosts a radio program on BBC Radio 2 entitled "Elaine Paige On Sunday." For more information, visit www.elainepaige.com.
