Actors' Fund's The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas Benefit Concert Presented Oct. 16

| photo by Aubrey Reuben | Following acclaimed concert presentations of Dreamgirls, Chess, Funny Girl, Hair and On the Twentieth Century, the Actors' Fund of America presents its sixth annual benefit concert Oct. 16 at the August Wilson Theatre. Show time is 7:30 PM.
Side Show's Emily Skinner and Beauty and the Beast's Terrence Mann co-star as respectively, Mona Stangley and Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd. The one-night-only event also boasts Harry Groener as the Governor, Andrea McArdle as Doatsy Mae, Felicia Finley as Angel, Mary Faber as Shy, Richard Kind as Senator Wingwoah, Jennifer Hudson as Jewel, "American Idol" finalist Constantine Maroulis as an Aggie soloist, Bob Martin as Melvin P. Thorpe and the cast of [title of show] as The Melvin P. Thorpe Singers as well as Daniel Richard, Peter Gregus, Matt Scott and Tony Award winner Christian Hoff.
The ensemble comprises Roxane Barlow, Ed Carlo, Jen Cody, Amber Efe, Phil Fabry, Rick Faugno, Sue Goodman, Justin Greer, Nina Hennessey, MaryAnn Hu, Trent Armand Kendall, Michelle Kittrell, Jeff Lewis, J. Elaine Marcos, Val Moranto, Naomi Naughton, Darius Nicols, Christina Norrup, Kate Pazakis, Rachelle Rak, Matt Rossoff, Jason Patrick Sands, Charlie Schwartz, Angie Schworer, Bret Shuford, Giovanni Stella, Dennis Stowe and Will Taylor.
Mark S. Hoebee directs Whorehouse, which features choreography by Denis Jones, set design by Paul Weimer, lighting design by Herrick Goldman, sound design by Shannon Slaton and costume design by Michael Growler. Seth Rudetsky is once again the musical director as well as the artistic producer for the annual semi-staged concert. Steven Yuhasz and Tim Pinckney are the producers.
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas features a score by Carol Hall and a book by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson based on the infamous Texas brothel, the Chicken Ranch. The musical, co-directed by Peter Masterson and Tommy Tune, opened on Broadway in 1978, playing 1,584 performances. Burt Reynolds and Dolly Parton starred in the film version.
Emily Skinner received a joint Tony Award nomination — with co-star Alice Ripley — for her performance in Side Show. Skinner's other Broadway credits include Jekyll & Hyde, James Joyce's The Dead, The Full Monty and Dinner at Eight. She was also part of the cast of the Disney musical On the Record, and she made her New York directorial with the Town Hall concert The Broadway Musicals of 1955. Skinner recently appeared Off-Broadway in Fanny Hill and in the Kennedy Center's production of Mame. She will soon be seen in Have a Nice Life, part of the New York Musical Theater Festival.
Terrence Mann received Tony nominations for his work in Les Misérables and Beauty and the Beast and has also appeared on Broadway in Barnum, Rags, Cats, Jerome Robbins' Broadway, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Getting Away with Murder and The Rocky Horror Show. He also starred with wife Charlotte d'Amboise in a production of the Sept. 11-based play The Guys.
The Actors' Fund of America, a nonprofit organization founded in 1882, provides for the social welfare of all entertainment professionals. Its headquarters and The Aurora Residence are located in New York City, and its nursing home and assisted living care facility are in Englewood, New Jersey.
