"Monk" Star Shalhoub Joins "Raymond" Wife Heaton in Off-Broadway's The Scene

"Monk" Emmy Award winner Tony Shalhoub returns to the New York stage in the upcoming Second Stage Theatre production of Theresa Rebeck's The Scene, which will co-star Patricia Heaton and Anna Camp.

Second Stage Theatre presents the New York debut of the work directed by Rebecca Taichman. Previews begin Dec. 12 towards an official opening Jan. 11, 2007, for a run slated through Feb. 4, 2007.

Following a Second Stage run of her The Water's Edge last season, Rebeck now offers her tale of an out-of-work New York actor (Shalhoub) — married to a news producer (Heaton) — who has an affair with a fresh-faced Ohioan ingenue (Camp) and finds himself more morally and spiritually lost than he was before.

Shalhoub's stage credits include a Tony Award-nominated turn in Conversations with My Father as well as Broadway's The Heidi Chronicles and a 1985 revival of The Odd Couple. Other appearances include Waiting for Godot (CSC Theatre) opposite John Turturro and Christopher Lloyd and the New York Shakespeare Festival productions of Henry IV Part I and Richard III. Shalhoub is also known for his television work in "Wings," "Stark Raving Mad" and his current role in "Monk" as well as the films "Big Night," "Men in Black" and "Galaxy Quest." This role will mark his return to the stage for the first time in eight years.

Heaton is widely recognized for her two-time Emmy-winning turn as wife Debra Barone on CBS' concluded series "Everybody Loves Raymond." The actress has also been seen in TNT's "The Engagement Ring," ABC's "The Path to 9/11" and co-starring with Jeff Daniels in a TNT remake of Neil Simon's "The Goodbye Girl." She began her career on the New York stage and made her Broadway debut in Don't Get God Started.

Anna Camp — seen recently Off-Broadway in columbinus at New York Theatre Workshop — will reprise her turn as the young, naive Ohio girl, which she played to acclaim in the Humana Festival at the Actors Theatre of Louisville.

Taichman staged the current run of Rebeck's Mauritius at Boston's Huntington Theatre Company and serves as an associate artistic director at Washington, D.C.'s Woolly Mammoth Theater. She has previously staged Green Violin (her co-creation) starring Raul Esparza at Philadelphia's Prince Music Theater, Clean House (Woolly Mammoth) and is also slated to direct her new play Dead Man's Cell Phone for the company.

Second Stage Theatre currently presents Jo Bonney's new staging of Eric Bogosian’s subUrbia through Oct. 29. The season continues beyond The Scene with Terrence McNally's Some Men (Feb. 23-April 15, 2007) as well as a spring production yet to be announced.

Tickets to The Scene at Second Stage, 307 West 43rd Street (just off Eighth Ave.), are available by calling (212) 246-4422 or (800) 766-6048. For more information, go to www.SecondStageTheatre.com.
