Stones in His Pockets Opens in London Nov. 6

Stones in His Pockets, Marie Jones' award-winning comedy, opens at London’s Duchess Theatre Nov. 6. Previews began Nov. 1.

The two-hander, about two extras working on a Hollywood movie being shot on location in Ireland, received its premiere at the Edinburgh fringe in 1999.

It went on to become a West End hit at the New Ambassadors after opening in Feb. 2000, winning a Best Comedy Olivier.

The show played over 200 performances on Broadway with its London cast — Conleth Hill and Sean Campion — opening April 1, 2001, at the John Golden Theatre. But like many productions had its run truncated by the 9/11 attacks, closing Sept. 23.

The West End revival, helmed by David Bownes with original direction by Ian McElhinney, sees Simon Delaney and Hugh Lee take on the play’s 15 male and female characters.

Delaney recently appeared in and directed the Irish premiere of The Full Monty. Lee appeared in A Brief History of Helen of Troy at London’s Soho Theatre and was in the U.S. and European tours of Friel’s Translations. Other work by Jones includes A Very Weird Manor and The Blind Fiddler.
