Musical Satire The Golf Wars Gets Nov. 6 Performance in Manhattan

By Kenneth Jones
03 Nov 2006

Peter Dizozza's musical comedy The Golf Wars tees off for one night only Nov. 6 in Manhattan at La Mama E.T.C.'s The Club Theatre.

The satiric piece, with script and songs by Dizozza, was first staged at the Williamsburg Art and Historical Center in Brooklyn as part of the Unity Canvas World Peace Multi-Media Art Exhibit in September 2002. It was revived at the Lamb's Club in Manhattan in January 2003.

This latest incarnation, directed by Tom Nondorf, is timed for presentation on Election Day eve.

"The Golf Wars tells the progressively wild musical story of the Dueling Pianists, performers at a familiar East Village music venue, who take their act to a paradisiacal Hawaiian Island," according to production notes. "There they become involved with pivotal figures in a land conflict between the occupying U.S. military and a foreign-owned golf resort—a golf war to end all golf wars.

"Ten years later, the resort owner's son, elusive yet still at large, takes his army to the isle of Manhattan, transposing an 18-hole golf course upon it, using skyscrapers as driving tees. This begins the Second Golf War. See the Dueling Pianists reunite to stop him!"

Dennis Hurley and Eric Starker are featured as The Dueling Pianists, with Doug Williams, Patrick Lynch, Molly Amoroso and Shelly Smith.

Matthew Grieco plays the piano score. Production assistant is Kristen Ellich.

Admission is $15. The performance is at 8 PM. La Mama is located at 74A East 4th Street, between Second Avenue and The Bowery. For information, call (212) 475-7710 or visit http://www.lamama.org.
