Mulholland to Star as Roxie in London Chicago

By John Nathan
12 Dec 2006

Aofie Mulholland, one of the finalists of the television series "How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria?,” has been given the nod for the role of Roxie Hart in the London production of Chicago.

In the TV reality show, Mulholland missed out on the lead role for the London production of The Sound of Music which was won by Connie Fisher, who is currently staring as Maria.

The hit production of Chicago, which opened at the Adelphi Theatre on Nov. 18, 1997, moved to the Cambridge Theatre in April, allowing the current revival of Evita to move into the Adelphi.

The Cambridge Theatre hosted the first production of Chicago when it opened there on April 10, 1979, running for 603 performances. The John Kander (music) and Fred Ebb (lyrics) musical premiered on Broadway in 1975, features such songs as “All That Jazz” and “Mister Cellophane” and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse.

During Mulholland’s run as Roxie, which starts Dec. 18, Ian Kelsey plays Billy Flynn, Annette McLaughlin is Velma Kelly, Julian Sims is Amos Hart with Brenda Edwards playing Mama Morton.

For more on Chicago, which is booking until Oct. 6, 2007, call (0)870 890 1102.
