Billboard — Based on Real-Life Ebay Forehead Tattoo Advertisement Auction — Plays 59E59

By Zachary Pincus-Roth
27 Dec 2006

Billboard, Michael Vukadinovich's play based on a true story of a woman who went on eBay and auctioned off her forehead as advertising space, will be presented at 59E59 Theaters Jan. 12-Feb. 4, 2007.

The world premiere production is directed by Tania Inessa Kirkman, and is a co-production of Reverie Productions and Overlap Productions. Opening night is scheduled for Jan. 18.

The inspiration for the play came from a 2005 article in the Deseret News, about a woman who went through with the auction to raise money to send her son to private school. Goldenpalace.com, an online gaming site, bought the space for $10,000.

Press notes describe the play as such: "Andy got a tattoo…of a corporate logo…on his forehead. His talented girlfriend is not impressed, his 15 minutes of fame is almost up, and now he has to live with it."

Vukadinovich is in his final year in the MFA playwriting program at UCLA, and his plays have been produced by Moving Arts (Los Angeles), Reverie Productions (New York), Eclectic Company Theater (Hollywood), The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum (Topanga) and Ensemble Studio Theatre (Los Angeles), among others.

Kirkman is the co-artistic director and co-founder of Overlap Productions, which she started with Susanna L. Harris in 2000. Her directing credits include Patty Red Pants, Fits and Starts: The Sacred Heart, Sand, Beowulf, Bang Big, Psychodrama Qu'est Ce Que C'est, America's Royal Miss, Wallenberg, Cherry Docs and Mommy and Daddy are Doing Dirty Things.

59E59 Theaters is located at 59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues in Manhattan. For tickets, call Ticket Central at (212) 279-4200 or visit www.ticketcentral.com. For more information, visit www.59e59.org.
