Will there be a blizzard in a Broadway theatre for the 2007 holiday season?

The producers of Slava's Snowshow announced that they are seeking a Broadway house for a late 2007 run of the unique internationally embraced clown show that has also been an Off-Broadway hit for nearly 1,000 performances.

The image-rich otherworldly show, created by Russian master clown Slava Polunin, features dialogue-free movement, clowning and hijinks — and culminates with a blindingly-lit blizzard of (fake) snow that is blown into the audience.

The nightly cleanup of the Union Square Theatre (and venues around the world) is a chore, to be sure, but the effect has been thrilling audiences in New York since 2005. (Playgoers have been known to find "snow" in their pockets and shoes weeks after attending the show.)

Slava's Snowshow has played over two-and-a-half years at the Union Square Theatre and hits its 1000th performance Jan. 12, at 8 PM. It ends Off-Broadway Jan. 14.

The show grossed $354,159.50 in the week between Christmas and New Year's Eve 2006. It was billed as the highest weekly Off-Broadway gross in history.

"We are thrilled with Snowshow's success. The show is a celebration. It is a natural choice for people wanting to have a great time with their families and loved ones," stated producer David J. Foster.

Slava's Snowshow is scheduled to tour Italy, Mexico, Canada and China from Jan. 14, "before returning to New York and a new Broadway theatre."

No official Broadway engagement has been announced — only the hope for one.

Slava Polunin himself will be performing for select shows in New York during the week of Jan. 8-14.

The internationally acclaimed event, seen by audiences in over 80 cities around the world, won the 2005 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience.

It also received the Olivier Award in London for Best Entertainment.

Slava's Snowshow is produced by David J. Foster and Ross Mollison by arrangement with Slava and Gwenael Allen.

According to the producers, "The show melds the unbridled hilarity — and the unexpected poignancy — of the art of clowning with stunning spectacle and awe-inspiring visual images and fantasy, culminating in a blinding, heart-stopping snowstorm that engulfs the entire audience."

Slava's Snowshow performs Tuesdays through Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 4 PM and 8 PM, and Sundays at 2 PM and 5:30 PM.
