Pulled ABC "Day Break," Starring Taye Diggs, to See Light Again Online

By Ernio Hernandez
16 Jan 2007

The remainder of ABC's canceled action thriller series "Day Break,"starring original Rent actor Taye Diggs, will be available for viewing online.

ABC president Steve McPherson revealed that fans of the serialized drama — which was pulled from the air after five weeks — may find some closure as the remaining episodes will be placed on the company's website by February's end.

Paul Zbyszewski ("After the Sunset") created the hour-long drama, which premiered Nov. 15 in the slot usually filled by "Lost," while that show was on hiatus. Executive producers are Matthew Gross, Jeffrey Bell and Rob Bowman.

"Detective Brett Hopper (Diggs) is having a hellacious day," read a show description, "the kind of day where nothing goes his way and he just can't wait to put it behind him... only he can't, because he's living the same day over and over again." Diggs' character is caught in a time-bending dilemma in which he wakes every day at 6:17 AM — though still maintains his memories and injuries from one to the next. Among his complications are being accused of killing an assistant district attorney.

Joining Diggs in the cast are Moon Bloodgood (as his girlfriend Rita), Meta Golding (his sister Jennifer), Victoria Pratt (his partner Andrea), Ramon Rodriguez (gang leader Damien Ortiz) and Adam Baldwin (ex-partner and Internal Affairs agent Chad).

Diggs recently appeared Off-Broadway in A Soldier's Play, in the film "Rent" and on television in "Will & Grace." He lent his dulcet tones to the hit movie musical "Chicago." The actor seen on stage in Carousel, The Wild Party and Chicago is perhaps best known for originating the role of Benjamin Coffin III in the musical Rent — where he met his future wife Idina Menzel. Diggs has appeared in the films "How Stella Got Her Groove Back," "Go" and "The Best Man" as well as on television in "Ally McBeal," "Ed" and the title role in "Kevin Hill."
