Hairspray's Pinette Cancels Jan. 23 In-Store Appearance

By Andrew Gans
22 Jan 2007

John Pinette, who played Edna Turnblad in the Broadway and touring companies of Hairspray, has canceled his in-store appearance at the J&R Music and Computer World.

Pinette was scheduled to appear at the Manhattan store at 12:30 PM to autograph copies of his new DVD, "I'm Starvin'." The DVD, which was taped live at the Montreal Comedy Festival, hits stores Jan. 23. No reason was given for the canceled appearance.

Shortly after he began touring comedy clubs around the country, John Pinette got his big break when he was asked to tour with Frank Sinatra. He's been in showbiz for 15 years. His film and TV appearances include "Duets," "The Punisher," "Dear God" and "Junior," as well as "Parker Lewis Can't Lose." Pinette was named Stand-Up Comedian of the Year by the American Comedy Awards in 1999 and received a Gemini Award nomination for his televised performance at the Montreal Comedy Festival in 2000. Pinette's first comedy CD, "Show Me the Buffet," and follow-up CD/DVD, "I Say 'Nay Nay,'" are also in stores.

The J&R Music and Computer World is located at 23 Park Row, between Beekman and Ann Streets, one block south of City Hall and two blocks north of Fulton Street.
