Pittsburgh Public Theater lights up Cabaret Jan. 25 as its first musical production of 2007.

Director-choreographer Ted Pappas, PPT's producing artistic director, has created an environmental production that immerses the audience in the physical world of the musical's setting, the Kit Kat Klub of 1930 Berlin.

Pappas' production opens Feb. 2 (after previews) and will play to Feb. 25 at PPT's O'Reilly Theater. His company includes Tari Kelly (Broadway's The Boy From Oz, and the title role in Marriott Theatre's Thoroughly Modern Millie) as Sally Bowles, Harris Doran as the Emcee, Daniel Krell as Cliff, Brooks Almy as Fraulein Schneider, Lenora Nemetz as Fraulein Kost, Scott Robertson as Herr Schultz, Carrington Vilmont as Ernst Ludwig, Leasen Almquist as Kit Kat Girl, Nicholas Ardell (Ensemble), Renee Monique Brown as Kit Kat Girl, Joe Domencic (Ensemble), Daina Michelle Griffith as Kit Kat Girl, Stephanie Lynn Nelson as Kit Kat Girl, Greg Roderick (Ensemble), Carol Schuberg as Kit Kat Girl and Marcus Stevens (Ensemble). The musical director/conductor is F. Wade Russo.

The 1966 musical based on the stories of Christopher Isherwood and the play I Am a Camera is by John Kander (music), Fred Ebb (lyrics) and Joe Masteroff (book). Harold Prince directed the original, as well as the revised 1987 version on Broadway. It was famously re-imagined in the 1990s in London and on Broadway. PPT will present the 1987 version of the property.

The Cabaret creative team includes James Noone (scenic designer), David R. Zyla (costume designer), Kirk Bookman (lighting designer), Zach Moore (sound designer), Don Wadsworth (dialect coach), Ruth E. Kramer (production stage manager), Fredric H. Orner (assistant stage manager), Carol Schuberg (assistant choreographer). For tickets and further information, call (412) 316-1600, visit www.ppt.org or visit the Public's box office at the O'Reilly Theater, 621 Penn Avenue, downtown Pittsburgh.
