| photo by Karl Giant | The burlesque queen and choreographer Julie Atlas Muz’s solo work, Divine Comedy of an Exquisite Corpse, will play P.S. 122 beginning Jan. 27 and running through Feb 11.
"Including post-mortem dance, ballet, mime, endurance exercises, burlesque and jazz, Muz will purposefully create the worst dance ever in hope that audiences will cheer at her tragic death," according to press notes.
Kate Valentine directs. Sound is by Raul Enrique Vasquez, lights are by Ben Kato, costumes are by MsTickleArts and set is by Muz and Leonel Valle.
Muz previously performed at P.S. 122 in 2004 in I Am the Moon and You are the Man on Me. As part of the 2004 Whitney Biennial, she performed in a reinterpretation of Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring inspired by the life and death of JonBenet Ramsey.
Muz won P.S. 122's 2006 Ethyl Eichelberger Award, named after the trailblazing New York performance artist who died in 1990 at the age of 55. The award is given annually since 2005 "to an artist or group that exemplifies Ethyl’s larger-than-life style and generosity of spirit; who embodies Ethyl’s multi-talented artistic virtuosity, bridging worlds and vitalizing those around them."
