Emerald Man Among ASCAP/Disney Workshop Musicals

By Zachary Pincus-Roth
26 Jan 2007

Emerald Man, which played the 2006 New York Musical Theatre Festival, is one of four musicals selected for the ASCAP Foundation/Disney Workshop in L.A. for developing musicals.

The four shows scheduled, according to Variety, are:

  • Mark and Bryan Karmelich's Jesus' Kid Brother, a comedy about Christ's younger sibling, Larry
  • Roslyn Catracchia and Lisa Matsumoto's On Dragonfly Wings, based on the true story of a Hawaiian child with leukemia
  • Randy Rogel and Kirby Ward's Romancing the Throne, a fractured fairy tale about a plot to assassinate a king.
  • Janet Cole Valdez, Marc Bosserman and Tom Valdez's Emerald Man, a "modern-day Don Quixote complete with comic books and superheroes," according to press notes, which follows a boy who runs away from a difficult family life to have quixotic adventures in Los Angeles.

Stephen Schwartz leads the workshop, which begins this month and runs through February.

Emerald Man will include an all-new Los Angeles cast, including Jonathan Goldstein (the Nickelodeon series "Drake and Josh"), Justin Alston, Justis Bolding, Sacha P. Comrie, Ryan Cusino, Steven Cutts, Jazz Emery, Tricia Kelly, Deedee O'Malley, Rob O'Brien and Jon Statham. The show will be presented in two segments, the first on Jan. 29 and the second on Feb. 20, on the Disney lot in Burbank, CA.
