O'Hara, Prince and Carmello Sing on Songwriter Georgia Stitt's Debut CD

By Kenneth Jones
29 Jan 2007

PS Classics announced that it will release "This Ordinary Thursday," the debut album of songs by composer-lyricist Georgia Stitt, featuring vocals by major Broadway talent, including Kelli O'Hara, Faith Prince and Carolee Carmello.

The album, produced by Jeffrey Lesser, will go on sale in stores April 10. The previous evening, Stitt and friends will celebrate the release with a performance and party at Birdland in New York City.

In album order, the singers on the disc include Andrea Burns, Matthew Morrison, Jenn Colella, Lauren Kennedy, Cheyenne Jackson, Tituss Burgess, Carolee Carmello, Keith Byron Kirk, Faith Prince, Sara Ramirez, Will Chase, Kelli O'Hara and Susan Egan.

Accoridng to PS Classics, some tracks, such as "The Holy Secret," "This Ordinary Thursday" and "I Get to Show You the Ocean," were created during personal milestones for Stitt; others – "She," "This Perfect Summer" and "Air" — were commissioned for the New Voices Collective concert series, of which she is a founding member.

Recording sessions for the selections on "This Ordinary Thursday" date from 2000 onward, and, about the songs, Stitt stated, "The possibilities for your debut album are endless, and the pressure is on to get it absolutely right. But at a certain point, you have to acknowledge that what you've got is a pretty apt representation of your work, your sentiments and your spirit, and, bravely, you have to let it go."

Stitt makes her living as a composer, lyricist, musical director, conductor, arranger and pianist. Musicals include The Water and Big Red Sun. Non-theatrical commissions include several choral pieces, "A Better Resurrection," "The Promise of Light," "Let Me Sing for You," "Echo" and "De Profundis," as well "These Two" for string quartet and tenor. Broadway credits include: Little Shop of Horrors (revival), Can-Can (Encores!), Avenue Q, Sweet Smell of Success, The Music Man, Titanic, Annie and the national tour of Parade. She has also served as musical director and arranger-orchestrator for The Broadway Divas concerts and was music consultant for the film "The Stepford Wives." She is a recipient of the ASCAP Frederick Loewe Fellowship, the Harold Arlen Award and the Sue Brewer Award.

She is currently developing a musical revue with composer/lyricist David Kirshenbaum and can be seen weekly as the vocal coach on NBC's primetime series, "Grease: You're the One That I Want." She lives in New York and Los Angeles with husband composer/lyricist Jason Robert Brown and daughter Molly. Visit www.georgiastitt.com.
