Variety reports that the actress has decided not to return to Broadway in the musical based on the film of the same time because of conflicts with her filming schedule for the hit NBC comedy "30 Rock." A May 7 opening at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre is still scheduled for Xanadu.

No casting has been officially announced for Xanadu, which features a book by Little Dog Laughed playwright Douglas Carter Beane. In addition to Krakowski, the Jan. 20-21 workshop featured the talents of Cheyenne Jackson, Tony Roberts, Mary Testa, Jackie Hoffman, Jen Cody, Darius de Haas, Tyler Maynard, David Tankersley and Marty Thomas. Christopher Ashley directed.

Previous readings of Xanadu, which utilizes songs from the movie's soundtrack, were held April 21 and Aug. 3, 2006, in Manhattan. Eric Stern was musical director.

The 1980 film "Xanadu" was written by Richard Christian Danus and Marc Reid Rubel and was directed by Robert Greenwald. Described as "a fantasy, a musical, a place where dreams come true," the film starred Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly, Michael Beck, James Sloyan, Dimitra Arliss, Katie Hanley, Fred McCarren and Ren Woods. Jeff Lynne and John Farrar composed the film's score.

A Tony Award winner for her work in Nine, Jane Krakowski was previously seen on roller skates in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express. She also appeared in the original cast of Grand Hotel, but may be best known for her work on TV's "Ally McBeal" and, now, "30 Rock."
