Upcoming Deuce Star Angela Lansbury to Hit the Air on "Joan Hamburg Show"

By Ernio Hernandez
06 Feb 2007

Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury — who will star opposite fellow Tony winner Marian Seldes in the world premiere of Terrence McNally's Deuce on Broadway — will appear on the WOR-AM 710 radio program "The Joan Hamburg Show" Feb. 7 (from 10-10:30 AM).

With the exception of a few one-night performances, Lansbury has not graced the New York stage since her 1983 turn in the revival of Mame. The four-time Tony winner of Sweeney Todd, Dear World, Gypsy and Mame returns to Broadway in the new McNally work playing a former doubles tennis legend reunited with her teammate at a championship match.

The actress also appeared on Broadway in Anyone Can Whistle, The King and I and A Little Family Business. She earned an Academy Award nomination for her screen debut in "Gaslight" and also played in "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and "The Manchurian Candidate." She is known to television audiences for her lengthy stint in "Murder, She Wrote."

Michael Blakemore (Copenhagen) directs Deuce, which is slated to begin previews April 16 at Broadway's Music Box Theatre with an official opening scheduled for May 6. The run will be a "strictly limited engagement" of 18 weeks.

Scott Rudin, Stuart Thompson, Maberry Theatricals, The Shubert Organization, Roger Berlind, Debra Black, Bob Boyett, Susan Dietz and Daryl Roth produce the Broadway run.

Seldes — a stage stalwart — won her Tony for Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance. Last seen Off-Broadway in McNally's Dedication or the Stuff of Dreams and Beckett/Albee, her Broadway credits include Equus, Ivanov, 45 Seconds From Broadway, Father's Day, Deathtrap, Ring Round the Moon and Dinner at Eight — she was Tony-nominated for the last four.

Further casting and a design team are yet to be announced.

Deuce will perform at the Music Box Theatre, located in Manhattan at 239 West 45th Street.
