A Number, Amadeus, Rabbit Hole Slated for Pittsburgh Public

By Kenneth Jones
12 Feb 2007

Pittsburgh Public Theater unveiled its 2007-08 season, which will include Amadeus, Shakespeare and Caryl Churchill.

Producing artistic director Ted Pappas' season will open Oct. 4 with Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, directed by Pappas, and set in Manhattan's Little Italy.

The slate will also include the solo show This Wonderful Life, a new adaptation of the film "It's a Wonderful Life." Conceived by Mark Setlock, and written by Steve Murray, it "distills the film's time-tested and truly wonderful qualities and adds touching, comic, and contemporary asides about its place in our hearts and its irreplaceable status in our holiday pantheon." It will begin Nov. 15.

The Second City serves its Pittsburgh-specific Three Rivers Runs Through It "just in time for Pittsburgh's 250th birthday." It will launch Jan. 8, 2008.

Peter Shaffer's Amadeus, featuring Harris Doran as Mozart, will be directed by Pappas, Jan. 24-Feb. 24, 2008.

David Lindsay-Abaire's acclaimed domestic drama Rabbit Hole makes its Pittsbugh premiere in a staging by Rob Ruggiero, March 6-April 6, 2008.

Caryl Churchill's tale of cloning, parenting and vanity, A Number, will play April 17-May 18, 2008.

Closing out the season will be "a great American play, still to be announced," for May 29-June 29, 2008.
