The acclaimed Menier Chocolate Factory production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park with George, which was nominated for six Olivier Awards, will likely arrive on Broadway next season.
Variety reports that the Roundabout Theatre Company is "laying plans" to mount the production at Studio 54, which is the current home of the Kristin Chenoweth revival of The Apple Tree.
The industry paper says rehearsals will likely begin in December 2007. No casting for the New York production has been announced. Daniel Evans and Jenna Russell, who played the roles of, respectively, George and Dot, are both nominated for Olivier Awards.
PS Classics released the London cast album.
Boyett Ostar, which has produced the London-to-New York transfers of The History Boys and the upcoming Coram Boy, will likely be part of the Sunday transfer. In fact, it was with Boyett Ostar that producer David Babani took Sam Buntrock’s acclaimed Sunday production from the Chocolate Factory to the West End's Wyndham's Theatre in May 2006, where it ran until Sept. 2. It was the first London production of the Sondheim work since the musical’s U.K. premiere at the National Theatre in 1990.
