A new comedy penned by Anthony Wilkinson (author of My Big Gay Italian Wedding) and Teresa Anne Cicala begins its eight-week engagement at the Actors Playhouse Theatre Feb. 23.
Entitled Boys Just Wanna Have Fun, the romantic comedy will run through April 14. The official opening is scheduled for March 2.
Co-directed by Sonia Blangiardo and Cicala, the cast of Boys comprises Wilkinson, Rachel Valdati, Tom Baran, Randi Kaplan, Erik Ransom, Kevin P. Smith, Philip Andrew Brock, Kevin McIntyre, Chad Kessler, Liz Gerecitano, Vincent Iannuzzi, Adam Ferguson and Jonathan Lang. The design team includes Robert Santeramo (set design), Bob Bessoir (lighting design) and Bernard Grenier (costume design). J. Austin Eyer is choreographer.
Boys Just Wanna Have Fun, according to press notes, is set in the late 1980s when "NYPD detectives Ralph and Lauren go undercover as 'Rio and Lola' to infiltrate an alleged drug ring. During their investigation at a local Staten Island gay bar populated by a mix of zany club regulars, 'Rio' meets and falls in love with Danny, the local heartthrob. What becomes the 'perfect' relationship is soon tarnished as disturbing truths are revealed by both men."
Performances are Fridays at 10 PM and Saturdays at 3 PM.
