The Public Theater's sold-out production of William Shakespeare's King Lear, starring Kevin Kline, will extend one week to March 25.

Tickets for the extra week go on sale the night of March 1 at 12 midnight at (212) 967-7555 or at www.publictheater.org.

The Public is also hosting a benefit performance of the play on March 20. The event includes dinner at 5 PM with special guest John Guare (the writer of Six Degrees of Separation, among other plays); Oskar Eustis, the Public's artistic director; and Mara Manus, the Public's executive director. The performance is at 7 PM, with a cocktail reception with members of the cast and artistic team to follow.

A ticket to the entire benefit with prime theatre seating is $500 a person; a ticket to post-show cocktail party with preferred seating is $250; and a ticket for theatre seating only is $100. To RSVP to the benefit contact Dana Rosen at The Public Theater at (212) 539-8736.

James Lapine directs King Lear at the Public's Anspacher Theater, which officially opens March 7 and was originally scheduled to run through March 18.

Kline is joined onstage by Brian Avers (Edgar), Larry Bryggman (Gloucester), Kristen Bush (Cordelia), Michael Cerveris (Kent), Philip Goodwin (Fool), Piter Marek (King of France), Laura Odeh (Regan), Daniel Pearce (Cornwall), Michael Rudko (Albany), Logan Marshall-Green (Edmund), Ryan McCarthy (Ensemble), Angela Pierce (Goneril), Timothy D. Stickney (Oswald) and Joaquin Torres (Duke of Burgundy).

Stephen Sondheim and Michael Starobin provide music for the production. The creative team also includes Heidi Ettinger (scenic design), Jess Goldstein (costume design), David Lander (lighting design) and Dan Moses Schreier and Philip Peglow (sound design).

Kevin Kline’s credits at the Public include Richard III, Much Ado About Nothing, Henry V, The Pirates of Penzance, Hamlet (twice), The Seagull and Mother Courage and Her Children this past summer opposite Meryl Streep. He also won raves recently as Falstaff in Henry IV at Lincoln Center Theater.

The Public Theater is located in Manhattan at 425 Lafayette Street.
