Maroulis and Others Perform at Broadway Purim Shpiel March 4

By Zachary Pincus-Roth
04 Mar 2007

"American Idol" finalist Constantine Maroulis (The Wedding Singer, Jacques Brel) along with cast members from Jersey Boys and other shows are performing at the 3rd Annual Broadway Purim Shpiel at the Hudson Theatre March 4.

The performers include Tituss Burgess (Jersey Boys), Daniel Reichard (Jersey Boys), Nina Hennessey (Les Miserables), Christine Pedi (Talk Radio), Kate Pazakis, Jaclyn Huberman (Broadway Idol Winner), Clif Thorn (Les Misérables), Drew Geraci ( La Cage aux Folles), Jennifer Naimo (Jersey Boys), Marya Grandy (Les Misérables), Anika Larsen (All Shook Up), James Wesley and Jessica Kirson.

Playbill.com columnist Seth Rudetsky is hosting.

The event begins at 4:30 PM with a Megillah reading, with an open bar between 6 PM and 7 PM. The main Purim Shpiel portion begins at 7 PM and is followed by a wine and dessert reception at 9 PM.

Purim is the Jewish holiday commemorated by dressing up in masks and costumes and reading the Megillah, also known as the Book of Esther. In the story, Queen Esther helps her fellow Jews in Persia escape from being killed by Haman.

The event is presented by the Taglit-Birthright Israel Alumni Association, along with the National Entertainment Fund for the Cultural Arts (NEFCA) and the event's co-chairs, Michael Steinhardt, Charles Bronfman and Lynn Schusterman. Proceeds benefit Taglit-Birthright Israel, which funds educational trips to Israel for young Jewish people who have never been there before.

Hudson Theatre is located at 141 West 44th Street in New York City. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.3rdbroadwaypurimshpiel.com.
