Lauren Kennedy Will Guest at Not Jewish or Gay March 19

By Andrew Gans
05 Mar 2007

Not Jewish or Gay: The Songs of Paul Fujimoto is the title of an upcoming concert at the Laurie Beechman Theatre.

The March 19 evening will feature the work of composer Fujimoto, including tunes from his song cycle Such Sweet Thunder and his family-friendly musical comedy Odd Man Out. Show time is 9:30 PM.

Fujimoto will be joined onstage by recent Spamalot star Lauren Kennedy as well as Courtney Brown, Colin Donnell, Josh Gaboian, Joshua Henry, Ginifer King, Kendall Lima, Corinne Palermo and Savannah Wise. Jeff Transki is musical director.

Seattle native Fujimoto, according to press notes, "has absorbed his hometown's rich history of grunge rock and indie jazz to arrive at the logical synthesis of . . . musical theatre? His songs speak to those of us who feel that the farmer and the cowhand should be friends, but aren't sure quite why."

Lauren Kennedy was most recently seen on the New York stage as the Lady of the Lake in the Tony-winning musical Spamalot. She covered the role of Daisy Hilton in the Broadway production of Side Show and also appeared in the New York companies of Sunset Boulevard and Les Misérables. Kennedy starred in The Rhythm Club and was also a part of the early incarnations of Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years, playing the role that would be played Off-Broadway by Sherie Rene Scott, when Kennedy crossed the Atlantic to star in the National Theatre's revival of South Pacific. Kennedy also appeared in The Ten Commandments: The Spectacle Musical, and her debut solo CD is titled "The Songs of Jason Robert Brown."

The Laurie Beechman Theatre is located within the West Bank Café at 407 West 42nd Street at Ninth Avenue. There is a $8 cover charge. For reservations e-mail mrstageright@yahoo.com.
