Casting Announced for Runaways: In Concert

By Andrew Gans
06 Mar 2007

Casting has been announced for the updated version of the 1978 Broadway musical Runaways that will be presented March 25 at Joe's Pub.

Runaways: In Concert has been reworked by Rodney Hicks, who will also direct the 9:30 PM presentation. Eric Svejcar is the musical director and arranger for the evening. The cast will include Ezra Miller, Garrett Zuercher, Eric Anthony, Shonn Wiley, Alex Brightman, Shaun Taylor-Corbett, Max Jenkins, Eric Nelsen, Karla Mosley, Karen DiConcetto, Idara Victor, Alexis Sims, Aryana Rodriguez and Juliana Rose Mauriello.

Presented by Jamie McGonnigal and Joe's Pub, a portion of the concert's proceeds will benefit The Joey DiPaolo AIDS Foundation and CAMP TLC. (For more information about JDAF/Camp TLC visit www.jdaf.org.)

Runaways, which features a book and score by Elizabeth Swados, premiered at Broadway's Plymouth Theatre in May 1978, playing 274 performances before closing Dec. 31, 1978.

Runaways, according to press notes, concerns "the lives of children who run away from home and live on the city streets. The characters were taken from workshops conducted by Swados with real-life runaways in the late 1970's. In this new production . . . the stories of these young people have been updated and thus made more poignant by their relevance to the challenges today’s youth face."

Joe's Pub is located within the Public Theater at 425 Lafayette Street. Tickets, priced $30, are available by calling (212) 239-6200 or by visiting www.telecharge.com. For more information go to www.joespub.com.
