"Dreamgirls" Climbs on Multiple Billboard Charts; Tops Soundtracks

In the aftermath of the Academy Awards win for star Jennifer Hudson, "Dreamgirls" remains at the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Top Soundtrack chart and moves up on other countdowns.
Featuring stars Beyoncé Knowles, Anika Noni Rose and Hudson as the title trio, the soundtrack marks its ninth consecutive week atop the soundtrack countdown (where the Deluxe Edition also charts at No. 7).
The album of the Henry Krieger-Tom Eyen score — released by Music World/Columbia — climbed one more spot (following a three-place jump last week) to No. 5 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. The album saw a big boost (from No. 16 to No. 8) on The Billboard 200 in its 13th week on the charts. ("Dreamgirls" had previously topped the latter chart for two weeks.)
Over on the Top Cast Album chart, the original cast recording of the Broadway musical — featuring Loretta Devine, Jennifer Holliday and Sheryl Lee Ralph — remains strong as well. The Decca Broadway original 1982 release hits its eleventh week on the chart, moving up two spots to No. 6. The recent Hip O/Geffen special edition dropped off the chart last week, but returns just inside the 15-slot chart at No. 15.
"Chicago" screenwriter Bill Condon directed and adapted "Dreamgirls," starring Jennifer Hudson as Effie, Beyoncé Knowles as Deena Jones, Anika Noni Rose as Lorrell Robinson, Jamie Foxx as Curtis Taylor Jr., Eddie Murphy as James "Thunder" Early and Danny Glover as Marty.
