David Hyde Pierce Will Visit TV's "Late Night" March 12

By Kenneth Jones
08 Mar 2007

David Hyde Pierce, star of Broadway's new musical comedy Curtains, will appear on TV's "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" March 12.

The talk show airs in the New York City area on WNBC Channel 4 between 12:30 AM and 1:30 AM.

In Curtains, now in previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, Pierce (Spamalot, "Frasier") plays a Boston police detective, Lt. Frank Cioffi, investigating the murder of the leading lady of a musical having its out-of-town tryout in Beantown. An avid musical fan, he tries to both solve a crime and defuse a Broadway-bound bomb, offering rewrite tips to the creative team and producers (played by Debra Monk, Karen Ziemba, Jason Danieley and Edward Hibbert, among others).

The musical, directed by Scott Ellis, features one of the last scores by John Kander and Fred Ebb, with additional lyrics by Kander and Rupert Holmes. Ebb died in 2004, when the show was still in development.

The show's originating librettist was Peter Stone, who also died during its creation. The book credit now goes to Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood).

Curtains opens March 22. Tickets are on sale at Telecharge at (212) 239-6200, or online at www.telecharge.com or in person at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre box office (302 West 45th Street).
