London Guys and Dolls Eyes Broadway

Michael Grandage, artistic director of London's Donmar Warehouse, has said there are plans for a 2008 Broadway version of his West End revival of Frank Loesser's classic musical Guys and Dolls.
"There are plans afoot to try to make a 2008 production work," said the director. Speaking to Variety, Grandage also held out the possibility of New York hosting his hit 2005 production of the Schiller thriller Don Carlos. "I know that the longer one leaves it the less likely it is, but I would very much like it to happen," said Grandage.
Grandage's revival of Frank Loesser's Guys and Dolls opened at the Piccadilly Theatre on June 1, 2005, with, respectively, Ewan McGregor and Jane Krakowski as Sky Masterson and Miss Adelaide.
American actor Don Johnson (best known for television's "Miami Vice") is the current Nathan Detroit with Samantha Janus returning to the role of Adelaide March 12. Johnson's final performance in the hit musical is scheduled for March 31.
Grandage's Donmar production of Peter Morgan's debut stage play Frost/Nixon, starring Michael Sheen and Frank Langella in the title roles, starts previews at Broadway's Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre March 31, officially opening April 22. That production represents the first Donmar transfer to New York since Grandage took over from Sam Mendes in 2002.
The original Broadway production of Guys and Dolls opened at Broadway's 46th Street Theatre in November 1950, running 1,200 performances before closing Nov. 28, 1953. Among the premiere cast were Robert Alda as Sky Masterson, Isabel Bigley as Sarah Brown, Sam Levene as Nathan Detroit and Vivian Blaine as Miss Adelaide. Blaine re-created her role for the 1955 film, which also starred Marlon Brando as Sky Masterson, Jean Simmons as Sarah Brown and Frank Sinatra as Nathan Detroit.
The most recent Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls featured Nathan Lane and Faith Prince. That Tony-winning revival, directed by Jerry Zaks, played 1,143 performances at the Martin Beck Theatre from March 1992-January 1995.
