Walsh, Lazar, Noll, Panaro and Berry Set for Broadway Musicals of 1938; Skinner Directs

By Andrew Gans
14 Mar 2007

Scott Siegel's acclaimed Broadway By the Year series will continue March 26 with The Broadway Musicals of 1938.

Tony nominee Emily Skinner will direct the evening, which will feature songs from musicals that debuted on The Great White Way in 1938. The starry cast for the 8 PM concert will include Andy Blankenbuehler, Sarah Uriarte Berry, Aaron Lazar, Shannon Lewis, Ray McLeod, Christiane Noll, Connie Pachl, Hugh Panaro, Martin Vidnovic and Barbara Walsh.

Concertgoers can expect to hear tunes from The Cradle Will Rock, I Married an Angel, Knickerbocker Holiday, Leave It to Me and The Boys From Syracuse. Song titles will include "September Song," "It Never Was You," "Falling in Love with Love,” “This Can’t Be Love” and "Spring Is Here."

In a statement creator-host Siegel said, "This is one of the most dynamic casts that I've ever assembled. It's a wonderful mix of Broadway by the Year veterans like Emily Skinner, Christiane Noll and Martin Vidnovic and new stars who have never done it before like Sarah Uriarte Berry, Aaron Lazar and Hugh Panaro. It’s especially rich getting Hugh Panaro and Emily Skinner who were both in Side Show together again. I'm also thrilled to have Andy Blankenbuehler dancing on our stage. He has choreographed a number of show-stopping dance numbers for Broadway By the Year but this will be the first time he has danced for us, himself – and this on the heels of his triumph as a choreographer for the hit show In the Heights."

Tickets, priced $40 and $45, are available by calling (212) 307-4100 or by visiting Ticketmaster.com. Town Hall is located in Manhattan at 123 West 43rd Street.

The Broadway By the Year series will continue April 30 with The Broadway Musicals of 1959, directed by Marc Kudisch; and June 18 with The Broadway Musicals of 1964, Part II, directed by Dan Foster.
