David Elder Will Be Singin' in the Rain for Goodspeed Musicals April 20-July 1

David Elder and Stacey Logan will star in Goodspeed's Singin' in the Rain.

Goodspeed Musicals' new production of Singin' in the Rain, based on the famed movie musical — and complete with an onstage rain shower — will boast David Elder as Don Lockwood, Scott Barnhardt as Cosmo and Sarah Jane Everman as chorus girl Kathy Selden.

The staging, directed by Ray Roderick and choreographed by Rick Conant, will play Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, CT, April 20-July 1.

Elder starred in the recent Broadway revival of 42nd Street, playing Billy. Everman appeared in Goodspeed's Princesses and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Stacey Logan, playing the diva Lina LaMont, makes her Goodspeed Musicals debut. A Broadway veteran and resident of Chester, CT, Logan has also been a longtime Goodspeed member. She appeared in Broadway's Crazy For You, Candide, Beauty and the Beast, High Society and Sweet Smell of Success.

"A romantic fable set in glamorous Hollywood, Singin' in the Rain is based on the classic M-G-M film with original choreography by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen and a screenplay by Betty Comden and Adolph Green," according to Goodspeed. "Songs are by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed. This sunny musical will delight all ages when the spotlight is thrust on Hollywood in its heyday — dashing leading men, glamorous starlets and plenty of romance on and off the screen."

The score includes (among other songs) "Fit as a Fiddle," "Good Morning," "Make 'Em Laugh," "Beautiful Girl" and "Singin' in the Rain" (and the Comden-Green-Roger Edens specialty, "Moses Supposes").

Michael Hayward Jones (Goodspeed's Mirette and Pal Joey) will play studio chief R.F. Simpson. James Dybas (Broadway's Do I Hear a Waltz?, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Sunset Boulevard and Pacific Overtures) makes his Goodspeed debut in the role of film director Roscoe Dexter.

The members of the ensemble are Jodi Adkins, Paul Aguirre, Jacob ben Widmar, Melinda Cowan, Tim Falter, Jenny Florkowski, Jillanne Galter, Danny Gardner, Daryl Getman, Chad Harlow, Drew Humphrey, Sarah Lin Johnson, Dorothy Stanley, Tara Jeanne Vallee, and swings Kevin Leary and Kate Vallee.

The creative team includes scenic designer James Noone, costumes designer Angela Wendt, music director Michael O'Flaherty, associate conductor F. Wade Russo, orchestrator Dan DeLange and lighting designer Kirk Bookman.

Singin' in the Rain is produced for Goodspeed Musicals by Michael P. Price. Official opening is May 16.
