Earlier in the day, at 4 PM, the Fringe's director Paul Gudgin will chair a panel at the Public Theater entitled "How to Do a Show on the Fringe," offering advice on bringing a show to the Edinburgh Festival, which occurs annually in August. The panel will also include such experts as The New York International Fringe Festival founding artistic director John Clancy.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, held each year in August, is touted as the world's largest arts festival. In 2006 it sold 1.5 million tickets to over 1,800 shows.
The New York event is one of the Fringe's many "roadshow" promotional presentations in such cities as London and Sydney. The visit to New York occurs in tandem with New York's Tartan Week, a celebration of all things Scottish, which runs March 30-April 14.
Gudgin commented in a statement, "New York and the U.S. in a wider sense is a hugely important market for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Last year we had more than 200 shows fly in from America to put on shows. Performers and promoters in the U.S. recognize the opportunities and value performing in Edinburgh can have, and the dramatic effect it can have on launching careers." Gudgin recently announced he is leaving his director position in June, to be replaced by Jon Morgan.
