Rita Moreno will star in the comedy Glorious! as part of Berkeley Repertory Theatre's upcoming 40th anniversary season which will also include new works by Danny Hoch, Will Eno, Mary Zimmerman and Frank Galati.

Artistic director Tony Taccone announced six of the seven shows scheduled for the coming season highlighted by the return of Moreno — who has appeared at the California company in Master Class and The Glass Menagerie.

The actress will appear in the West Coast premiere of the Peter Quilter comedy Glorious!, set to play in the Roda Theatre. The London hit centers on "true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, a celebrity soprano who was completely tone deaf." The singer also inspired the play with music, Souvenir. Exact dates are to be announced.

The new season (subject to change) lines up as follows:

  • George Bernard Shaw's Heartbreak House (Aug. 31-Oct. 14) - Roda Theatre
Les Waters stages the classic filled with "ridiculous aristocrats, eccentric suitors, and iconoclastic women [who] grapple with unlikely romance in a world on the brink of war."

  • after the quake (Oct. 12-Nov. 25) - Thrust Stage
Frank Galati adapts and directs the work written by Haruki Murakami and translated by Jay Rubin in which a "storyteller can't dispel the world's woes, but he can teach a child – and himself – how to face fear."

  • Mary Zimmerman's Argonautika (Nov. 2-Dec. 16) - Roda
Conceived and directed by the Chicago-based creator of Journey to the West, Metamorphoses, The Secret in the Wings and The Notebooks of Leonardo da Vinci, this new mythic trek takes audiences alongside "Jason on his ancient quest for the Golden Fleece — an epic journey of love and loss, hubris and honor, danger and adventure... [in which he] confronts giants, kings, sirens, nymphs, centaurs, sea monsters, and one treacherously heartsick sorceress."

  • Untitled Danny Hoch world premiere (Jan. 11-Feb. 10, 2008) - Thrust
Tony Taccone will direct a new solo created and performed by Jails, Hospitals & Hip Hop star Danny Hoch which "captures the indelible characters of his neighborhood in Brooklyn, where the melting pot is boiling over with ethnic and economic tensions."

  • To Be Announced (Feb. 15-March 30, 2008) - Roda

  • Will Eno's Tragedy: a tragedy (March 28-April 27, 2008) - Thrust
Les Waters stages the American premiere of the new work from the pen of Thom Pain (based on nothing). "The sun – despite its shining record – has finally set. Reporters descend in a flurry of absurd questions and incoherent commentary, while the governor hysterically urges calm."

  • TBA (May 9-June 22, 2008) - Roda
