"30 Rock" — Starring Baldwin and Krakowski — Renewed for New Season by NBC

By Ernio Hernandez
05 Apr 2007

NBC has renewed the new comedy "30 Rock" — featuring Tony Award winner Jane Krakowski and stage veteran Alec Baldwin — for the 2007-08 season, the network announced April 4.

"From the beginning, '30 Rock' has proven to be the kind of quality comedy that doesn't come around very often, and we are very pleased to have this show back for a second season," said NBC Entertainment president Kevin Reilly. "We expect it to continue to build its increasingly loyal audience and become another of NBC's classic comedy series."

The half-hour comedy — which returns April 4 with a "super-sized" episode at 8:40 PM — will move into a new time period (Thursdays at 9-9:30 PM) April 12 for the remainder of this season. (All times ET. Check your local listings.)

Tina Fey ("Saturday Night Live," "Mean Girls") stars in the sitcom that centers around the making of a weekly live sketch show titled "The Girlie Show," which stars fellow "SNL" alum Tracy Morgan and Krakowski. Scott Adsit, Keith Powell, Judah Friedlander, Katrina Bowden, Jack McBrayer, Lonny Ross and Rachel Dratch round out the cast.

Other stage alum to have appeared on the show include Nathan Lane, Brian Murray, Whoopi Goldberg, Peter Hermann, Stephanie March, Rip Torn, Wayne Brady, Isabella Rosselini and Anna Chlumsky.

Baldwin was last seen on the Off-Broadway stage in Entertaining Mr. Sloane. The screen star has also made room for stage turns in Twentieth Century, Loot, Trumbo, Serious Money, the benefit Short Talks on the Universe and the 1992 revival of A Streetcar Named Desire — for which he was Tony Award-nominated. The Long Island native is known for such films as "State and Main," "Glengarry Glen Ross," "Prelude to a Kiss" (reprising his Off-Broadway role), "The Cooler," "The Aviator," "Pearl Harbor" and "Beetlejuice," among others.

Krakowski last appeared onstage in the London run of Guys and Dolls and earned her Tony Award for the Tony-winning revival of Nine. The actress made her Broadway debut in Starlight Express and has also appeared in Tartuffe, Company, Once Upon a Mattress and Grand Hotel. Known for her previous TV work on "Ally McBeal," she also starred in the NBC television musical "A Christmas Carol" and in such films as "Pretty Persuasion," "Go," "Dance with Me" and "Alfie."
