Spring Awakening composer Duncan Sheik has scored the upcoming film "The Cake Eaters" — directed by Nine star Mary Stuart Masterson — which will debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The film, penned by Jayce Bartok, will make its world premiere April 29-May 5 at the Manhattan-based event. Masterson marks her feature directorial debut with the motion picture.

In "The Cake Eaters," according to an announcement "a prodigal son's return conjures up old ghosts for three generations of two different families in a small, quiet town."

Tony Award winner Elizabeth Ashley (Take Her, She's Mine) is featured in the ensemble cast with Kristin Stewart and such other stage veterans as Aaron Stanford (Where Do We Live?), Bruce Dern (Sweet Bird of Youth), Jayce Bartok (The My House Play), Miriam Shor (Dedication or the Stuff of Dreams), Melissa Leo (The Distance From Here), Andrea Martin (Oklahoma!) and Jesse L. Martin (Rent).

Composer Sheik created the current Broadway musical Spring Awakening with book writer-lyricist Steven Sater as well as the musical The Nightingale. The duo have also collaborated on Nero (Another Golden Rome), a Sater work with songs by Sheik that was seen at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco.
