Chase, Selya and More to Join O'Hara in Oklahoma's Centennial Oklahoma!

By Zachary Pincus-Roth
19 Apr 2007

Will Chase will play Curly opposite the previously announced two-time Tony nominee and Oklahoma native Kelli O'Hara's Laurey in the cast of Lyric Theatre's production of Oklahoma! in Oklahoma City from June 26-30.

John Selya, a Tony nominee for Movin' Out, will play Dream Curly. Also announced to star will be Robert Hunt (Les Misérables) as Jud Fry, Courtney Balan (I Love You, You're Perfect...) as Ado Annie, Nathaniel Shaw as Will Parker, Amir Arison as Ali Hakim, Melinda Tanner as Aunt Eller and Addie Tomlinson as Dream Laurey.

The production, which celebrates the state of Oklahoma's 100th birthday, will be directed by Lyric Theatre artistic director Nick Demos, with music direction by Joel Levine and choreography by Demos and Ce Ce Farha. Associate choreographers are Ashley Stover Wells, Lyn Cramer and Amy Reynolds-Reed. Scenery will be designed by Michael Schweikardt, costumes by Jeffrey Meek, lighting by Helena Kuukka and sound by George Ryan.

Chase has appeared on Broadway in High Fidelity, The Full Monty, Rent, Aida, Miss Saigon and Lennon. Selya most recently appeared on Broadway in The Times They Are A-Changin'.

O'Hara, who received her first Tony Award nomination for The Light in the Piazza, and the second for the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of The Pajama Game, was born in Elk City, OK, and attended high school in Edmond. She studied voice with Florence Birdwell at Oklahoma City University and graduated with a bachelor's of music in vocal performance/opera.

Lyric Theatre has been Oklahoma's main musical theatre company since 1963. Lyric's season will also include Evita, Singin' in the Rain, Once On This Island and a special add-on production of Disney's High School Musical.

The production will be presented at the Civic Center Music Hall in downtown Oklahoma City. For information call (405) 524-9312 or visit www.lyrictheatreokc.com.
